Welcome to my latest venture. Some of you may be familiar with my work as a professional photographer, but my professional career actually began in software design, development and implementation about 30 years ago (yes, we had computers way back then). Over the past few years I've come up with web based applications that some users wished were available as mobile applications. I ignored those early requests because the mobile app development environment didn't seem to be a "friendly" place and I already had too many other projects on the go.
By "friendly" I mean that each mobile device had it's own way of doing things that were unique to each company's offerings. Luckily that market is beginning to mature and cross platform development is becoming a reality.
My intention is to support these applications on the following platforms: Android (phones & tablets), Apple's iPad & iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook / Z10.
* Canadian Railway Signals & Interpretations (CROR 2008) *
Applies to Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway and any other federally regulated railway operating in Canada. This app is better than the flash cards used in the classroom because it includes all signal and aspect variations.
was my first utility to make the leap to the mobile world. Signals was born out of a need to better understand Canadian Railway Signals during my RAC (Railway Association of Canada) Conductor course and was originally developed as a web based utility. We were given flash cards to train with during our course. Rail fans from all over the world have been using this utility to learn about the railway signals of Canada.
CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules) specifies, among other things, signal indications and procedures to govern train movements.
The official version of the CROR, in its entirety, applies to all railway (railroad / train) companies operating in Canada.
Single, double and triple aspects are covered, plus blinking/non-blinking aspects, staggered/non-staggered masts and letter plates.
All valid signals are fully explained, including the CROR rule number, correct signal name and the action to be taken.
Model railroaders may also find this information helpful as well as other train enthusiasts.
* UAV Photo Coverage Calculator *
UAV/RC Photo Coverage Calculator
was designed for drone, UAV and Radio Control (RC) based aerial photographers who must know the altitude they need to fly at long before the job begins, especially if they're required to file operational information with the local aviation authorities before work can commence. This utility gives you the information you need, when you need it. Having this information at your fingertips while you're in negotiations will impress your clients. You'll be able to answer their "what if" questions on the spot.
* North American Aviation Weather *
(METAR/TAF) summaries for almost any airport in North America. Airport weather forecasts aren't just for pilots. Anyone heading outdoors needing current and accurate local weather conditions can benefit from these forecasts.
Mobile apps are available from Amazon App Store, Google Play, BlackBerry World and Apple iTunes store.
App availability may vary by platform and app store.
